What is Botulinum?

Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin that relaxes muscles. It has a multitude of medical applications but the one we utilize is relaxing the muscles in the face that cause unwanted wrinkles. Botulinum smooths wrinkles that form as a result of facial movements like squinting, frowning, smiling, and aging. It works by being injected directly into the muscle causing the frowning and causing it to relax. You’ll still have regular facial expressions but the unwanted wrinkling will smooth out.

Why are there so many different types of Botulinum?

Removing wrinkles with Botulinum is a big business (4.8 million procedures worldwide yearly) and different companies have their own products.  Jeuveau®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Botox Cosmetic® are examples of injectable products with Botulinum in them you may have heard about. There are a few differences between the products that your aesthetic injectable nurse Susan or Janna will go over with you in detail.
